Militants flee Pakistan after cross-border attack

Pakistan — A Pakistani official says dozens of militants who came from Afghanistan to attack a village in the country's northwest and took scores of villagers hostage have fled back across the border.

Framosh Khan says the militants took with them the bodies of 15 fighters who were killed in a battle with Pakistani soldiers. Two members of an anti-Taliban militia that appeared to be the target of the cross-border attack were also killed.

The militants fled back to Afghanistan's Kunar province near midnight Thursday, hours after they first launched their attack on Kitkot village near Pakistan's Bajur tribal area.

Khan said Friday that security forces managed to rescue all of the villagers who were taken hostage.
