‘American Idol’ Winner Phillip Phillips Makes History With Coronation Song
“American Idol” ratings may be down for the show’s eleventh season, but that has no bearing on the sales figures for this season’s winner, Phillip Phillips. Phillip’s coronation song “Home” earned the highest debut on the Digital Songs chart this week. The song hit number two on thecharts with 278,000 downloads.
It’s the second best digital sales week since Kelly Clarkson’s song, “My Life Would Suck Without You”. That particular track debuted to 280,000 digital downloads for the season one champ.
When Phillip performed the coronation song on the performance finale, all three of the judges gave him a standing ovation. Randy Jackson said that he loved the song, he loved Phillip and the production. Basically, he loved everything about it. Of course, Randy had to yell his praise at the “Idol” champ due to all of the wild applause from the audience. Jennifer Lopez said that the song’s sound wasn’t like anything on the radio right now. Steven Tyler said that Phillip had made the world his home.
